Intervention by the delegation of Estonia
Estonia warmly welcomes the delegation of Norway to its third UPR. We thank Norway for the report presented and for the additional information given today.
Estonia notes with appreciation that Norway has established a National Human Rights Institution with a broad-based mandate to promote and protect human rights.
We acknowledge the efforts of Norway in the area of gender equality and the realization of all human rights for women and girls in Norway as well as internationally. We have positively noted the steps taken for the prevention of domestic violence and sexual abuse. We also commend the activities carried out for reducing the number of incidents of violence against children, and for improving the care for children who have been exposed to violence and abuse.
Estonia would like to highlight Norway`s activities in the field of protection of the rights of indigenous peoples and we encourage to continue effective cooperation with the Sami Parliament.
We are pleased to commend Norway’s great role and effort as an international aid donor and Norway`s human rights-based approach to development cooperation.
Estonia would like to recommend to Norway:
– to ratify the Kampala Amendments to the Rome Statute on the crime of aggression.
Finally, Estonia positively notes Norway’s active participation and support in the implementation of the ICC’s mandate.
We wish the delegation of Norway a successful review meeting.
