Estonia will engage more actively with the IOM on digital issues

Ambassador Katrin Saarsalu-Layachi paid a courtesy call to the Director General of the IOM Mr Antonio Vitorino. Both leaders appreciated excellent collaboration. Ambassador Saarsalu-Layachi noted that despite of the conservative migration policy, Estonia is exploring new avenues to contribute to the IOM`s work. One of the possibilities could be exchanging best practices and lessons learned in the field of data interoperability, digital ID and cybersecurity matters. DG Vitorino agreed, that there is room for closer cooperation, also in the areas of border controls and civil registries. Ambassador Saarsalu mentioned that as an elected member of the UN SC Estonia would like to raise awareness on the climate related impact to conflicts.
