Marten Kaevats participated at the panel on AI and Digital Identity organized by the WEF on 29 May. The panel was first in the day-long session on Al, Human Dignity & Inclusive Societies, that was chaired by Eileen Donahoe, Executive Director, Global Digital Policy Incubator at Stanford University.
Building on globally accepted principles—including the UN SDGs and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights —the AI, Human Dignity & Inclusive Society track brought together actors from around the world to ensure that AI is deployed to promote peaceful inclusive societies, protect human rights and enhance human dignity. The first panel of this track focused on new developments in “Digital Identity” systems, and focus on essential elements of “good digital identity” to ensure that AI-based systems are inclusive, non-discriminatory, and beneficial for all.
Estonia has been the world leader in developing the digital ID. According to Mr. Kaevats, the only way to provide services that are all-inclusive is to make the digital-ID mandatory for all citizens. Estonia`s goal in the years to come is to implement new human-centric approach to public digital services using AI.
