World Meteorological Organisation

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) is an international organisation founded in 1950 and acting as an UN agency. The organisation’s work involves meteorological, climatological, hydrological and geophysical observations, coordinating related programmes, collecting and processing relevant data and improving the meteorological cooperation between countries. The WMO is also tasked with improving the cooperation of the meteorological and hydrological agencies of its member states in fields such as water management, climate, agriculture, environment, and the mitigation of the effects of natural disasters. The WMO is the only Geneva-based organisation where Estonia is not represented by an ambassador. Estonia is represented by the director general of the Estonian Weather Service. The WMO is also improving meteorology cooperation of its members.
